X5 Retail Group
X5 Retail Group is Russia’s largest retailer in terms of sales. The company was created as the result of a merger between Pyaterochka (soft discounter chain) and Perekriostok (supermarket chain) in 2006. As of September 30, 2008, X5 Retail Group managed 1,027 stores located in Moscow, St Petersburg and other regions of European Russia, the Urals and Ukraine, including 794 soft discount stores, 191 supermarkets and 42 hypermarkets. Its franchisees operate 684 stores across Russia.
X5 Retail Group’s net revenues for the 2007 were $5,320 mln, an increase of 53% y-o-y. Gross income for the period totaled $1,404 mln, EBITDA was $479 mln and net income came in at $144 mln. Including Karusel on a pro forma basis, the retailer’s net revenues for 9m08 totaled $6,516 mln, gross income was $1,674 mln, EBITDA was $578 mln and net income was $138 mln.
