Armen Garo

Armen Garo founded biotechnology company Antigencics in 1994 and he is now the CEO and BoD Chairman. He was also Chairman of the BoD at biopharmaceutical company Elan Corporation until 2004. Prior to this, Dr Garo established Armen Partners, a money management firm specializing in biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and was the architect of the widely publicized creation of the Immunex Lederle oncology business in 1993. Earlier, he was a senior vice president of research at Dean Witter Reynolds, having begun his career on Wall Street as an analyst and investment banker at EF Hutton.

Dr Garo is also the Founder and Chairman of the Children of Armenia Fund (COAF), and the Armenian Prime Minister’s Medal of Honor was presented to him for his continued commitment to humanitarian support. In June 2002, he was named a New York City Biotechnology Entrepreneur of the Year and was selected as one of 38 regional entrepreneurs who were honored by Ernst & Young for sound financial performance, social responsibility and workplace culture. He holds many other awards for his humanitarian efforts and various contributions to society.
